Alexandra is a full-time illustrator and designer, using both traditional painting and digital media to create her artwork. While she primarily showcases at Anime and Comic conventions, you’ll see her four cats at her booth, one of her main inspurrrations! Creator of Catcus Plush, you may have also seen some of her cat-tastic designs for The Purrrcast Podcast, or her Avatar the Last Airbender/Samurai Jack pin design collab with voice actor Greg Baldwin. She’s currently working on a picture book about Catcus, new original pin designs and paintings, and she can’t wait to show you!

Q&A

How did you start pet portraits?
Inspired to paint my own cats and all their quirky sides to showcase at conventions, I was asked if I took pet portrait commissions. I love to integrate the animal's personality into the piece, and a favorite toy or food. It all started with my Oliver Banana Cat painting, which inspired a bunch of offshoot pet portraits in a similar vein.

What's your favorite animal to paint/sculpt/photograph etc?
Cats! But also I really love birds, amphibians, reptiles, and insects.

Do you have any pets? Are they an inspiration in your work?
Yes! I have four beautiful cats. Absolute criminals they all are--because they stole my heart!

Any advice for artist getting into pet portrait work?
Know what you love to draw and paint, and find a way to bring out something uniquely you in that portrait. Whether it's your drawing style, color choices, and most importantly of all--translating the personality and life of the subject into the piece.
